Heading Out!

I'm leaving for Kazakhstan this afternoon at 1:24, with one stop in Washington, DC, and another in Frankfurt, Germany.  I won't arrive in Almaty until Sunday night at 11:55 (Kazakh time)--a total travel time of nearly 24 hours and a distance of over 7000 miles!

    3. Certainly. I meant to say 12:45, but 1:00 works just as well. I'll see you then!

  7. Howdy from Mrs. Gibson's 4th block class! We've seen your responses to 1st and 3rd and we want to Skype with you too! We have a few questions: What's the most interesting food you've eaten so far? What's the time difference? Are there any different dances there? What are some interesting names you've heard? Taryn wants to know if you've seen any of the wild horses...Do you miss McDonald's?

    1. Hi fourth block class! Yes, I would love to skype with you too. There is a ten hour time difference between us, which means that when your class starts it will be after midnight here. I will have to stay up late to talk to you!! Could we talk at ~2:15 tomorrow?

The most interesting food I have eaten so far is probably the beef tongue and eggplant salad that I had for dinner tonight. It might sound unusual but it was very tasty!

I know they do have different dances here, but I have not seen any yet. I did see some dancing today though. We were at a huge park in the city center, and there were about a hundred or more local college students who were having a waltz lesson in the park. They were having a lot of fun!

I have not seen any live horses here yet. So far I have only been in Almaty, which is a big city of about 1,500,000 residents. I am going to a smaller town on Thursday and hope to see more of the countryside on the way--I will let you know what I see.

I have to confess that I never eat at McDonald's, or pretty much any other fast food restaurant . . . so no, I don't miss it. Even though they don't have McDonald's here, I have seen some fast food chain restaurants--Hardee's, KFC, and Burger King. It was funny to see a huge picture of Colonel Sanders' face in the middle of Almaty, Kazakhstan!
