What books are popular for teens in Kazakhstan?

Students from Gymansium #10,
My student, Simeon, asked a good question which you can answer better than I can. He wants to know what books you like to read. Add a comment below if you would like to answer him.

Here's one that I saw in a bookstore in Almaty today:

  1. My favourite books is detective stories. My favourite writer is Boris Akunin. I like his stories about policemen, named Erast Fandorin. All events take place from 1876 to 1911! It's really interesting stories consist of 12 books=)

  2. I like read fantasy stories. I have read a lot of novels and stories were written by Herbert Wells. "The War of the Worlds" is my favorite one. Also I like read science fiction novels by the Strugatsky Brothers, soviet sci-fi writers, especially "Пикник на обочине" translated in english as "Roadside Picnic".

  3. Dear Simeon and other students from USA,

I am glad to answer your questions!
A have a lot of friends who are fond of reading, so they have different preferences. Some of them like modern prose, others prefer social science literature(for example psychology), some like classic Russian literature, Marvel Comic books are popular, but most of them read fantasy, so do I.

I am a "bookworm" and I just go mad reading J.R.R.Tolkien`s "Lord of the Rings", J.Roling`s "Harry Potter" and J.R.R. Martin`s "A Song of Ice and Fire". Also I like some historical novels like "The Three Musketeers" of Alexandre Dumas.Apart from that I like Boris Akunin`s detective stories, his books are associated with historical events too and it helps me on my classes.Speaking about Russian classic, I am fan of Mikhail Bulgakov`s novels.

And what books are popular for you?

    1. Simeon,
It is not warm at all(although it must be!). It`s windy and quite cold both outside and inside, so only blanket and hot coffe help me to feel warm now c:

  6. Hello! I'm another teacher at Mr. Dent's school in America. Some of my students are reading "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer. Since they recommended it, I began reading it last week. Unfortunately, I enjoyed it so much that I stayed up much too late several evenings this week reading it.
